Board of Finance
Community Development & Neighborhood Revitalization
Institutions/Human Resources (chair)
It is truly an honor to represent the residents of Ward 6 and the City of Burlington on the City Council. My love of Burlington is deeply rooted in a rich history of community involvement as a fourth generation citizen of our City.
I grew up on Robinson Parkway and attended and graduated from Burlington schools. After high school, I got a degree in Economics and Political Science from Mount Holyoke College and later a Masters degree in Public Administration from UVM. After college, I started an asset management firm becoming one of Vermont’s first Certified Financial Planners. I continue to do financial analysis for clients and work as a columnist to several newspapers on financial issues of our day.
I was raised with the strong belief that it is my responsibility and obligation to give back to a city that has been so good to me and to my family. I have served on many non-profit boards, have worked on community fund-raising campaigns for children, was a PTO chair, coached youth soccer, and have served on two statewide commissions including the Vermont Environmental Board. In addition, I served on the Burlington Electric and Burlington Police Commissions.
My top priorities as a City Councilor have been centered on fiscal issues and correcting past financial challenges that were created years ago as well as restoring our credit rating. I have been elected to serve for several years on the Board of Finance and have written and sponsored countless resolutions that have implemented best practices with regard to our budget, our audit, our pension and other financial matters.
I am also firmly committed to quality of life issues creating a system to address noise complaints and have worked to create a system to enforce landlord accountability. I also wrote and cosponsored resolutions to initiate smoke-free outdoor public places for our parks, beaches and downtown.
In concert with Planning and Zoning, I worked to envision a Downtown plan which became planBTV and later worked to garner unanimous co-sponsorship from the City Council to make planBTV one of our guiding City planning documents.
I have posted Council meeting previews and updates on Front Porch Forum since 2009 and am on Facebook and Twitter with updates for Council meetings and many other events. .I also publish a newsletter several times a year to reach out and keep in touch with residents.
It is my hope that my combination of government, business and community leadership experience has been and will continue to be an asset to Ward 6 and the City.
I could not do what I do without the support of my husband, Mark and our three children, Andrew, Adam and Caroline for which I am always grateful. It is a privilege to serve.
