Ali Dieng - City Councilor - Ward 7

I am the Family Outreach Coordinator and Parent University Manager for the Burlington School District Expanded learning Opportunities. In this role, I work with families, assisting them with paperwork and processes to access afterschool programming for their children.

I also provids cultural competency workshops for afterschool staff and teach drumming to students. As Parent University Manager, I coordinate with a multitude of community partners to create engaging classes and workshops for parents and families of children in the district that encourage parents to engage in the school and community and provide them with concrete knowledge and skills to improve their quality of life and ultimately their children’s success.

As a city councilor for Ward 7, I am working to bring more key Burlington events and services to the New North End. As the New North End grows and as more of our elders decide to retire in the neighborhood, we need more opportunities for people to get together and connect. I would like to see events from the Jazz Festival, Mardi Gras, as well as services like a UVM health center or the library have some satellite offices in the New North End. This would better serve especially our seniors, who can often have issues with getting transportation to downtown.
